The Harvest is Home!!!

We've eaten 'Sopa de Quinoa' (Quinoa Soup), discovered that 'Machu Picchu' means 'Old Mountain', thrown 'good seed' down on the congregation from the churches balcony (!) and spoken live in our evening service via Skype with our Link Missionaries James and Julia Henley in Arequipa. Why? Because this year we have used the BMS Harvest material 'Sacred Soil: Harvest in Peru' to celebrate Harvest.

The celebrations have spanned over 10 days starting on the Sunday with our Harvest All Age Celebration and Evening Celebration. Then they continued the following evening as we met and enjoyed together our Harvest Supper... concluding a week later with a 'Peruvian Evening' with food, music and quiz all with a Peruvian flavour. We've all learnt a whole lot about Peru, we've been really encouraged to hear how God is using His people to help plant much needed physical seeds in the soil of the Sacred Valley and the good seed of the message of Jesus in the soul of the people and we were really excited to get a live update from James and Julia as they prepare to move on from Arequipa further into the heart of Peru. Once again the message of harvest has come home!

Mission:Rescue... Be a 'Special Agent' for the week!

All children between 5-11 years of age are invited to become 'Special Agents' for the week at our all action Mission:Rescue Holiday Club which will be held at Bethania each day from Monday 25th July until Friday 29th July between 10:30am and 12:25pm. From code breaking to gadget making, from going undercover to big chase scenes, from special operations to special agents briefings; each day there will be an exciting mix of activities all with a generous 'spy theme' flavouring! And in the midst of it all we shall be exploring the incredible story of how God used Moses in His mission to rescue the Hebrews from their cruel task masters in Egypt.

No charge will be made for children to attend Mission:Rescue. Each child will need to have a registration form filled in by their parent/guardian - these are available in advance from Paul and Robyn (Tel: 01554 749317) or on the door at the beginning of each session. See you there!!!

Now for something completely... NEW!!!

Sunday 12th June will see the beginning of an exciting new service for people of all ages that we are calling 'Connexion Worship'. The service, which will be held in Bethania at 11:00am every Sunday morning, is the joint venture of Bethania and Emmanuel Baptist Churches. The name 'Connexion Worship' describes the aims of this new service; to connect the church to the community, our worship to the week and God's life to ours.

'Connexion Worship' will feature the new Xplore and Xplode groups for children, will be youth friendly and provide a special Parent and Baby area. Each service will be followed by free refreshments giving everyone who would like to time to simply chat... or, for those who prefer, time to ask any questions that you have about that day's service.

Between now and the end of August we'll be taking a look each week at the theme 'Life - exclusively styled by Jesus'. From 'success' to 'loneliness', from 'money and things' to 'the future' we'll be looking at what Jesus has to say about these issues and many more.

So why not join with us as we start out together on this whole new adventure? You'll be really welcome!

A Feast and Fellowship

The Cawl Cenin on Monday was, again, a success both in terms of the Cawl and cakes and the wonderful time of sharing and laughing.  Paul organised a Welsh themed quiz with questions on Sport, History, Geography and Culture and I was embarrassed with my lack of knowledge of our small, but perfectly formed, Country.

The dinner was well supported by members of Emmanuel, friends and our brothers and sisters from Bethania.

Wonderful!

Cawl Cenin 28, Feb

A fun evening with singing and some really marvellous soup.  Only £3.50 at Emmanuel at 6:30, this evening is a very popular part of the Emmanuel calendar.

Sunday - 27th Feb - Service time changes

The Llanelli Welsh language Churches are holding a Gymanfa Ganu on 6, March and our Bethania folk will be attending.  So we have a re-shuffle of our services on the 27, Feb and 6, March

Our combined services are moving, this month only, to the last Sunday of the month (27, Feb) instead of the first Sunday of the month (6, March).

Deep Trouble with Jacob!

We've been having a great time at our two weekly clubs Rock Solid and Lighthouse recently. Here's why...

Rock Solid is our club for Primary School age children and Lighthouse is for Secondary School age young people. Both are run jointly by Bethania and Emmnauel even though they take place at Bethania and both take place on a Friday evening. We're finding out about 'The Trouble with Jacob' in Rock Solid. It's a great story all about the hassles that we can have in our families. With a generous helping of games, music and crafts added in tomorrow we'll be finding out how God helped Jacob sort out his massive fall out with his twin brother. In the Lighthouse we'll be continuing watching a really good series of DVD's called Deep. They've been put together by the Message Trust to give young people a chance to think and talk through the big themes of Jesus' message. Oh yeah, we'll all be carrying on learning to juggle as well!

We have a great time and we recon, if you're the right age, you would too. Why not check it out? There is no charge for either club and they are open to anyone to join!

Rock Solid runs from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and Lighthouse from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.

Sunday's coming... can't wait!

This Sunday is the first Sunday of February (already?!)- 6th February - so it's our Joint Services and we have some really good things to look forward to!

On Sunday morning at our 'All-Age Service' at Bethania (11:00am start) our theme is 'What's your Name?' With music, quiz and a very special story we'll be thinking together about how special our names are to us, others and to God! 45 minutes of action packed activity... followed by a cuppa and a chat - great!
On Sunday evening in our 'Celebration' at Emmanuel (6:00pm start) we'll be continuing to look at the book of Ephesians and thinking about how God want's the Church to be 'A Team Pursuit not an Individual Medlay'. With worship, prayer and story... it's an opportunity to think through our place in the Church community... followed by refreshments!
Why not join us? Whether it would be your first time or whether you come often - I look forward to welcoming you this Sunday - the 'First Sunday/Dydd Sul Cyntaf' of February!

Monday's YWL Meeting - Wales Romania Aid

On Monday Val Newton of WRA joined us for a talk about her activities supporting people in need in eastern Europe.  She gave a heart rending story of the poverty of lots of people and the needs of so many children.  Her little organisation makes such a change in children's lives and that of their families.

Bethania has supported Val's pasta and rice appeals for many years and recently with Emmanuel's help.

I've known Val from very many years back when she started helping families in Romania in the early nineties and I worshipped at Bethel Pontyclun.  Val was able to tell me of the marriage of a friend from those days who I had lost contact with.

The meeting was well supported with a need for extra chairs to be added.  We left a plate out at the end of the meeting and raised £125 in the collection.

God bless

Back2Church - What a success!

What a brilliant evening.  There were several new faces in Church.  From teenagers to pensioners.  A really good turnout and a terrific message.  Even the tea, coffee and buscuits were great.

Did I say how well it went?

Sorry, but it was great.

God bless.

Back to Church Sunday - 26th September 2010

“Success is one: success is one big church”

Back To Church Sunday

Back to Church Sunday 2010 will be taking place on Sunday 26th of September.

Our focus is on the personal invitation by one church member inviting one friend. Back to Church Sunday raises a high media profile as tens of thousands of Christians offer this invitation at the same time.

Some churches put on special events for Back to Church Sunday. Others chose to continue with their regular services. Either way, the most important part of the day is to offer a warm and honest welcome to people.
